What to Look Out For this Week in Issues

1.  Tonight, Trump is making an announcement on the strategy on Afghanistan.  Questions we should ask ourselves:

Is an increase in our troop level still necessary after 15 years?  Do we really need to be there?  Are we going to end this?  Or are we there another 15, still losing troops and our tax dollars?

Also, rumor has it that the Trump Administration's plan may include "privatizing" the war in Afghanistan by allowing Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos' brother, Eric Prince's private security company takeover. He is the former head of Blackwater.  Here is an article from the Atlantic:

President Harry S. Truman said felt that those who profit from war are committing "treason".  What do you think?  Contact your US Congressional Reps. and Senators tell them how you feel about this.

2. Speaking of Betsy DeVos, she is rolling back protections on Student Loan Protections that the Obama Administration implemented.  This means predatory collection practices once again.  Rumor has it that her family also has investments in these collection agencies. Again, get involved, contact members of Congress and the Department of Education.  Also, contact your state's Attorney General if you run into illegal or abusive collection practices by any creditor.

3. Prayers to those missing Sailors of the USS John S. McCain.

4. North Korea is still trying to bait Donald Trump in response to the upcoming S. Korea and US Military exercises.  Hopefully, someone can keep Trump from Tweeting to avoid escalation. Do we really want another war started with finishing the ones in the Middle East?

Dear Asshole Americans who voted for the Orange Motherf*cker (especially family members), A few days ago was January 6, 2025, for those keeping track, it was a day in which Congress routinely certifies the Presidential Election. It felt normal, unlike the last Presidential election certification.  On January 6, 2021, our years of tradition and the core of our democracy was challenged for the first time when there was no peaceful transfer of power.  Instead we watched as "Americans" stormed the Capitol all in the name of saving their Orange Bastard messiah from being "cheated out of an election."  We all know, including you all, that it was a fucking lie from, to use Jon Stewart's words, a "whiny bitch".  The current election certification was completed without the horror that we witnessed four years ago. No One Elected Elon Musk (Or Any Billionaire Overlord)

  It's all over the news and the observations about the power structure that now exists in the White House has been made perfectly clear.  The press conference in the Oval Office with Donald Trump at the desk, silent and only speaking when it seemed when he had permission, while Elon Musk, with his small son picking his nose, did all the talking. It's really a depressing scene as one of the tech oligarchs actually thinks that HE won the election, as the shadow of a man, Trump, who was elected sits there confused. (Maybe Musk did win, as it seems that he bought it.)
